Library Resources

Millburn cardholders have access to high-quality career & training resources, such as Universal Class, which has thousands of free classes on dozens of subjects, including career services, computer skills, business and more. Job-seekers especially should look into the Job & Career Accelerator provided by the NJ State Library, which has information & training on building resumes & cover letters, finding exploring career paths and finding jobs, interview prep, and even a scholarship search.

Remember the Dewey Decimal system from school? No worries if you don’t— here’s the cheatsheet for job-related book shelves. Our Nonfiction shelves are on the second-floor.

  • 331.702: Job descriptions, job vacancies, occupations, vocational guidance.
  • 650.14: Career changes, cover letters, interviewing, job-hunting,  resumes, unemployment.

The NJ Business to Business Directory set is available in the library for reference as well.

NJ Division of Unemployment

In New Jersey’s official unemployment portal, you can file a claim, check your claim status, and certify for weekly benefits if you are unemployed through no fault of your own. First you will need to ensure that you qualify for such claims, if you haven’t already. Make sure you explore the portal and all relevant information, or check out the F.A.Q. on unemployment insurance.

Also accessible through the portal:

  • Career Services: browse job openings, take free online skill courses (up to 5,000 SkillUp courses in the NJ training program, as well as the Workforce Learning Link, which provides adult learns with reading, math, financial literacy, job search & life skills), request 1-on-1 phone or email support, apprenticeship opportunities, and more.
  • One-Stop Career Service Centers: due to COVID-19 all centers are closed for in-person services

Online Resources

  • The Muse: job listings, career advice & available counseling.
  • The Balance Careers: the smart place to search for jobs, internships & even work-from-home roles, get information on career planning, and read articles on how to succeed at work in every way.
  • 125 Common Interview Questions (with Answers): a ton of the most common interview questions you might encounter, along with tips and answers to prepare yourself to win the job.
  • The Mom Project: connecting talented women with world-class employers that respect work & life integration.

Local Support Groups

  • Meet-Up Careers in Transition, Short Hills: CIT is a networking group and more— we provide small group discussions lead by professionals offering insight, tools & techniques for navigating career strategies in the current workplace environment.
  • Northern NJ Professionals in Transition: in-person meetings & online groups to help unemployed & under-employed people looking for new & different career opportunities.
  • The Professional Support Group of Morris County: begun by job-seekers, PSGMC was founded to provide a supportive community, training, resources, & volunteering opportunities that enable professionals to find their marketplace value and network into employment.
